'A drink precedes a story'
GreenRiver is the Michelin-starred restaurant by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group located in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood. With one of the city’s largest outdoor terraces, GreenRiver boasts sweeping views of Lake Michigan and the city’s downtown skyline. Native Chicagoan and Executive Chef Aaron Lirette’s menu is solidly rooted in Midwestern mentality, paying tribute to Chicago’s culinary past and present, with nods to modern gastronomy technique. GreenRiver’s expansive cocktail menu features eight sections organized by the raw materials used for distilling spirits, complemented by an approachable wine list and twelve beers on tap, predominantly from Chicago breweries. Guests can also experience an ingredient-focused cocktail menu in the Annex at GreenRiver, a clandestine cocktail den with unparalleled views.
Since opening in September 2015, GreenRiver has received one Michelin star, three stars from the Chicago Tribune, four stars from Crain’s Chicago Business, and was named one of Playboy magazine’s “Best New Bars of 2016.”
Aaron Lirette is the Executive Chef of GreenRiver. Aaron oversees GreenRiver’s talented kitchen team and the restaurant’s seasonal American menu, which received a Michelin star in 2016. A native Chicagoan, Aaron has worked at some of the most prestigious restaurants in the city. Prior to joining the GreenRiver team, Aaron was part of the opening team at Celeste, worked at MK and was chef de cuisine at Acadia where he helped the restaurant earn a Michelin star. A precocious cook since childhood, Aaron began experimenting in the kitchen at age 10, had perfected cream puffs and eclairs by 13 and was set on a culinary trajectory at 14 after his mother gave him a copy of The French Laundry Cookbook.
